  1. Tiana -- Very interesting! What do you learn that motivates people to disclose or learn more? Often, children will want to know health information as a way of preparing for their own health issues as you mention, but I wonder how much motivation to help parents is also a motivating factor. I like your code table.

  2. Tiana, I appreciate that your study is so centrally focused on communication and it is an important context to study-- how and when do familiy members reveal genetic health issues? A number of us in the department are using Petronio's Communication Provacy Management theory; one of the criteria for disclosure is timing-- what is the most appropriate time to reveal this? I am wondering what criteria family members use or should use to make decisions about the proper timing of this revelation? How do family members handle situations when they misjudged the timing? We are so grateful for the work that you have done with your Capstone professors this semester; you hung in there and finished up your project. Wishing you all the best! If you are graduating this semester, congratulations and please keep in touch with us, you are always a CommHusker! Dr. Dawn O. Braithwaite, Department Chair, Communication Studies

Tiana, you've done a good job exploring some of the challenges that family members face when considering health disclosures. I wonder, do you think the nature of the health disclosure plays a role here as well? We know that certain health conditions are more stigmatized than others, so perhaps that is another factor at play here. Nicely done!

  4. Hi Tiana,
I used to TA for this course in 2013 & 2014 and advised the quantitative and qualitative projects. Your study lies outside of my wheelhouse so I am not able to provide much feedback in that capacity. Sorry. But what I can say is that is no small feat to complete a human subjects research study period, let alone doing it in the course of a semester. But, wow, what you have done with sample size, research design/question, and methodology is impressive under normal circumstances, but knowing that you completed this while campus was shut down is incredible.
    GBR!
